Kelly Aycock
Instructional Technology Coach, Griffin-Spalding County Schools
When Griffin-Spalding County Schools began exploring artificial intelligence in classrooms, leaders saw both opportunity and uncertainty. Students were already experimenting with public AI tools, and a new White House executive order required AI literacy across Pre-K–12 by the 2026–27 school year.
The district needed a way to prepare teachers and students—safely, responsibly, and without adding more work. That’s when they partnered with TrekAI, launching a pilot in four schools.
Kelly Aycock and Leslie Fagin, Instructional Technology Coaches at Griffin-Spalding County Schools, shared during a breakout session at Georgia Educational Technology Consortium (GaETC) that teachers report saving hours every week, students are building AI literacy skills, and district leaders have a clear path toward compliance and innovation.
The Challenge
Griffin-Spalding’s instructional technology team wanted to get ahead of the federal AI literacy requirement. But they faced three immediate challenges:
- Student safety: Public AI tools risk exposing students to disinformation and unsafe content.
- Teacher workload: Educators were already stretched thin—adding a new platform couldn’t add new burdens.
- District readiness: Any solution had to be compliant, easy to deploy, and adaptable to local needs.
“Knowing that our children have access to AI scares me because of what’s out there. With TrekAi, I know they’re getting something that keeps them safe and helps them learn the right way.”
— Leslie Fagin, Instructional Technology Coach, Griffin-Spalding County Schools
